Supreme Court Strikes Down a Federal Law that Prohibits Sports Gambling

In a 6-3 ruling, the Supreme Court of the United States struck down a federal law that prohibits sports gambling Monday in a landmark decision. The ruling effectively clears the way for states to legalize betting on sports. The lawsuit was filed was filed by the State of New Jersey nearly six years ago and was opposed by the NCAA, NFL, NBA, NHL and Major League Baseball.
